Hello and welcome to our new home on Dreamwidth! Same crew as on tumblr, just a new site!

What is this?

The Weekend Writing Marathon (WWM) is a writing challenge. You set your own writing goal for the weekend and work to achieve it before reporting back to the group on Sunday night.

How do I participate?

You have to do 3 things:

1. Set your goal and comment the WWM Goals post with your weekend goal when the post goes up on Thursday.

2. Start writing on Friday 12:01 am local time. Work to meet your goal by Sunday night at 11:59 pm local time

3. Post your accomplishment on the WWM Final Count post (even if you didn’t reach your goal).

What do you mean by goal?

Goals work best when they are specific, measurable, and attainable. Saying “write more” doesn’t really meet those guidelines. Give yourself a word count goal or a stopping point you want to reach in your work.

Your goal might be to write 500 words per day, 5k total for the weekend, write (or finish) chapter 2 of your fic, write an outline for a story… that sort of thing. They are measurable and specific (only you can decide what is attainable).

All the mods are SPN fanfic writers. Do I have to write SPN fanfic for the marathon?

Nope. Any fandom counts AND it doesn’t even have to be fanfic. Get to work on those original fics too!

Do I have to pick one project to work on or can I work on multiple projects over the weekend?

Work on whatever you want, however much you want.

What do I do during the marathon?

Write your ass off and encourage other participants. When you post your work you can submit it to be included in our weekly Fic Rec list.

How do I turn in my final word count?

A Final Count post will go up on Sunday. Reply that post with your final word count/accomplished goal by Monday at 4 pm EST (time zone converter). Totals from the weekend will be posted on Tuesday.

All writing sprints are run on our discord server. You can find our server here.

What is a 1k1h?

A 1k1h is when you write as much as you can in an hour, aiming for 1,000 words.

Yikes. What if I don’t make it all the way to 1k?

That’s okay! Words are words, my friend. Share your wordcount with the group whether you made it to 1k or not.

So when does this happen?

The schedule changes a little each week depending on our hosts’ schedules. A list of 1k1h sprints for Monday-Friday will be posted on Sundays and a list of 1k1h sprints for Friday-Sunday will be posted on Thursday. Check the Schedule tag for the current schedule or follow our calendar!

Bummer. I just saw the schedule and I can’t do any of those times.

That’s okay. It’s tricky to find times that work for everyone’s schedules. I have 3 suggestions:

1. Check in again on Sundays and Thursday, because the scheduled times do change. Or subscribe to the calendar so it’s automatically updated when things change.

2. Join us for a Weekend Writing Marathon, which is more open-ended and easier to fit around your schedule.

3. Offer to host a 1k1h sprint. Tell me when and I’ll add it to the list.

4. The discord server has an entire room set aside for impromptu sprints, run whenever folks want to play. Start one there!

I really really really want to host a 1k1h sprint!

Excellent! Send me ([personal profile] treefrogie84) a message or an ask with the day and time. I need to know by Saturday if it’s a Monday-Wednesday date, and by Wednesday if it’s a Friday-Sunday date.

If you have any questions, please let us know!
