What is this?
The Weekend Writing Marathon (WWM) is a writing challenge. You set your own writing goal for the weekend and work to achieve it before reporting back to the group on Sunday night.
How do I participate?
You have to do 3 things:
1. Set your goal and declare it on the WWM Sign Up post when the post goes up on Thursday.
2. Start writing on Friday 12:01 am local time. Work to meet your goal by Sunday night at 11:59 pm local time
3. Post your accomplishment on the WWM Finish Line post (even if you didn’t reach your goal).
What do you mean by goal?
Goals work best when they are specific, measurable, and attainable. Saying “write more” doesn’t really meet those guidelines. Give yourself a word count goal or a stopping point you want to reach in your work.
Your goal might be to write 500 words per day, 5k total for the weekend, write (or finish) chapter 2 of your fic, write an outline for a story, edit for 3 hours, beta read a fic for someone else… that sort of thing. They are measurable and specific--only you can decide what is attainable.
I noticed that most of the admins write fanfic. I only write original work. Do I have to write fanfic for the marathon?
Nope. Write whatever you want! Original fiction, non-fiction, script writing, fanfic for any fandom--all of it counts. Just get your words on the page.
Do I have to pick one project to work on or can I work on multiple projects over the weekend?
Work on whatever you want.
What do I do during the marathon?
Write your ass off and encourage other participants. Oh, and if you post updates on your work tag them weekend writing marathon. When you post your work you can submit it to be included in our weekly Fic Rec list.
How do I turn in my final word count?
A Finish Line post will go up on Sunday. Respond to that post with your final word count/accomplished goal by Monday at 6 pm EST (time zone converter). Totals from the weekend will be posted on Monday evening EST.
